TV trouble : Sides being Cut off?

I have an LG 21" Flat screen which was bought around 7 years back. I have observed a significant cut-off (about an inch or so) on both the sides of the TV. Top n bottom r perfect. I actually noticed this quite sometime ago while I was using my STB ( set top box ) some buttons appear only half or quarter on both the sides. I contacted a service person and he told me to replace my front button panel ( it doesn't work properly ) and remote ( which is partially working ) at the cost of 500 INR. Tried changing the settings to Standard, Zoom n Wide but in vain.But still I want to give a fix suggested by you a try
