Does anyone know of Pradaxa being used "off-label" for a patient with a mechanical heart valve?

My wife has a terrible time with coumadin, her inr varies wildly between danger zones of clotting and bleeding. Pradaxa sounds like the answer but has not been studied with mechanical heart valves. One source suggested that physicians use meds "off-label" but I don't want her to be the first.
